The Silver Lake Robotics Teams run the Silver Lake STEM Camps in the summer. These camps generates interest in robotics and other STEM activities in children in grades 3-6. Two robotics sessions were hosted at the high school this past summer. The students work in teams to build robots and learn to program a virtual robot in a scientific exploration and competition setting. They use arduino and lego kits that the Silver Circuit members organize for them prior to the beginning of the camp. Campers also are able to drive the competition robot from the previous season.
After each competition season the competition robot is taken to each of the schools that serve the Silver Lake Regional High School, where our team is based. The robot is exhibited at the Kingston, Halifax and Plympton elementary schools, as well as the Silver Lake Regional Middle School. Students are taught about FIRST, the competition, and the team. They are also given the opportunity to personally drive the robot and experience performing the tasks that the robot was designed to execute during the competition.
We also host a drive session with the Best Buddies association at our school. These students are also given the opportunity to drive the robot and learn about the team and the competition.
